Clearly the core meaning of inaugurate relates to new beginnings, fresh starts. to launch something. I would even suggest to create something fresh. Here we are at the start of a new month, only 20 days in, and of a new year-2017. Now is the time to focus on the future. It is rife with possibilities. Now is the time for each of us to think about our first 100 days in the new year. We cannot effect policies and procedures and bills and laws of the government, for that is the job of our politicians. However, we can set into motion our own goals, plans and strategies for ourselves. To me, that is much more exciting.
Let’s look more closely at today’s events and see how some of what we witnessed may apply in our lives to help each of us achieve the success that we desire.
PREPARATION

In order to accomplish any goal, in order to inaugurate any project, ample and accurate preparation is a must. With today’s event, there was preparation for the venues, the security, the seating arrangements, the program, the schedule and a myriad of other things. It may seem elementary to mention this but great success often begins with proficiency of the basics. So, whatever it is that you intend to inaugurate in your life this year, in 2017- be it your fitness goals, writing that book, starting that online company, getting out on the speaking circuit, whatever it may be, please don’t just jump in. Do some planning. It will make the implementation much smoother and will increase your chances of success for said endeavor.

I have a friend who is inaugurating a vineyard in Michigan later this year. A vineyard doesn’t just spring up over night. Or even over one season. She and her husband have spent at least a few years planning for this. Every month they travel from the Chicago area where they live to Michigan and spend days at the property doing preparatory work. They didn’t just buy the land and begin planting wine seeds/grapes. There were old barns on the property that needed to be refurbished or torn down. The land had to be cleaned and tilled and prepped for planting. This has been a long process. But they know their dream. They know their desired outcome and they know what they need to do to bring it to fruition-literally and figuratively. Planning and preparation are crucial.
PEOPLE

Again, maybe a very basic principle but it must be noted. No project of any merit is ever successfully undertaken by one person alone. There is no such thing as a self-made millionaire or billionaire. There is no self-made business woman. Nobody starts a business and succeeds without customers. If one is ‘self-made’, then who purchased all their products? Who made the products? Who marketed and delivered the products? All successful people had other people that helped them attain the position they find themselves in.
Trump would not have won the presidency without votes from the people. No candidate could. He cannot function in the office of the President without cabinet members, or advisors, or staff, or secret service. He also cannot function effectively without the checks and balances of the people of the other two branches of the government.
As you consider, envision, plan and prepare for the projects that you will initiate, embark upon, launch this year, be careful to choose and surround yourself with the right people who will help you fulfill your vision. Hopefully, they will be people whose strengths complement your weaknesses and who share other perspectives that you may not naturally see.
PROCLAMATION- The Oath/Declare it

The Bible states that “The power of life and death are in the tongue.” When the President-elect places his hand on the Bible and repeats the oath of office after the Supreme Court Justice who is leading him, something more than a recitation of words is taking place. There certainly is power and energy in taking an oath, making a declaration or stating a proclamation. In addition to that individual swearing their allegiance to “preserve, protect and defend the constitution”, I believe that person is stating forth their intention for all to bear witness. He is declaring to the universe and bringing forth what previously was not. Before taking the oath of office that person was still only the President-elect. After the oath that person is declared to now be the President.
So, what does this have to do with you and me and achieving our goals and projects that we will initiate and inaugurate in 2017? First, don’t keep them a secret. I have met many people who say they have goals but they don’t want to share it with other people because they have some superstition that if they state it out loud they will ‘jinx’ it. But nothing could be further from the truth.
When one states something out loud there is a greater chance that they will actually take action and follow through with it rather than if it’s just a secret idea in that person’s mind that they call a goal. In fact, a while back I learned that the root word of the word ‘utter’-as in to say something aloud, and ‘outer’, are similar. What you think about you bring about. What you speak forth comes to fruition.
Am I saying that in order to inaugurate your plan or project that you must find the nearest Bible and Justice of the Peace so you can make or take an oath? NO. However, it would be advisable to state it out loud and declare it to someone- a friend, loved one, mentor, or advisor. This will lend both energy and accountability to this ‘goal’ you have.
PURPOSE-Why Are You Inaugurating/Launching this?

Another word for Purpose could be Mission. What’s driving you? Today, and throughout the campaign, Donald Trump had one clear, simply stated, purpose driving him. That is to: “Make America Great Again”. Again, it doesn’t matter if you resonate with this or not. I’m not endorsing or denouncing it. I’m merely explaining that Trump clearly knows/ believes why he is being inaugurated, why he desires to step into this role. His purpose is stated in 4 words. He believes he has a mission and a vision. The Bible states that “Without vision, the people perish.”
You and I would also do well to give careful consideration to why we are inaugurating what we are doing. Hopefully, it is something greater than the desire for fame and fortune. I want to be an author because I want to be famous. I am starting this online marketing company because I want to be a millionaire. While those reasons are not intrinsically bad or wrong it is my hope that it will have something to do with bringing value and being of service to others. Or to share your gifts with others. Before you inaugurate that huge project this year, make sure you know your purpose.
PRAY -Ask for God’s Blessing

Any undertaking, grand or small, we all need divine guidance, inspiration and even protection. Don’t leave God out of it. Need I say more?
TAKE ACTION- Do Something Today to get the Ball Rolling

Today after the oath taking ceremony, while the press, dignitaries and honored guests waited in the banquet hall for Donald Trump to join the luncheon in his honor, he immediately was joined by a small group of family and colleagues as he signed a number of Executive Orders. I don’t know what they all entailed and some we were told were merely formalities-as officially declaring the nominations for some of his incoming cabinet members. Really, work on the day he is inaugurated? Today is supposed to be about celebration. It is. However, he took the time to take action. He set a tone that he is about business.
