Welcome Back to Soupfly!
Today is Inauguration Day. Today in the United States, Donald J. Trump took the oath of office and was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States. Regardless of your political views, regardless of whether you voted for Trump or Hilary, or you abstained, today is a time that merits reflection. Reflection for us as a nation, but also, and perhaps more importantly, for us as individuals.
Today marks a new beginning in our country. Today is the start of a new administration in the White House. In view of the events leading up to and including today, I believe there is much we can learn and model from this concept of inauguration. What are the lessons and the symbolism of inauguration that we can learn and apply to our own lives? Here are a few thoughts that come to mind.
Inaugurate-Definition: So, what exactly is the definition of to inaugurate?
begin or introduce (a system, policy, or period).“he inaugurated a new policy of trade and exploration”
synonyms: initiate, begin, start, commence, institute, launch, start off, get going, get underway, set in motion, get off the ground, establish, found, lay the foundations of;bring in, usher in, introduce;informalkick off
Clearly the core meaning of inaugurate relates to new beginnings, fresh starts. to launch something. I would even suggest to create something fresh. Here we are at the start of a new month, only 20 days in, and of a new year-2017. Now is the time to focus on the future. It is rife with possibilities. Now is the time for each of us to think about our first 100 days in the new year. We cannot effect policies and procedures and bills and laws of the government, for that is the job of our politicians. However, we can set into motion our own goals, plans and strategies for ourselves. To me, that is much more exciting.
Let’s look more closely at today’s events and see how some of what we witnessed may apply in our lives to help each of us achieve the success that we desire.
In order to accomplish any goal, in order to inaugurate any project, ample and accurate preparation is a must. With today’s event, there was preparation for the venues, the security, the seating arrangements, the program, the schedule and a myriad of other things. It may seem elementary to mention this but great success often begins with proficiency of the basics. So, whatever it is that you intend to inaugurate in your life this year, in 2017- be it your fitness goals, writing that book, starting that online company, getting out on the speaking circuit, whatever it may be, please don’t just jump in. Do some planning. It will make the implementation much smoother and will increase your chances of success for said endeavor.
I have a friend who is inaugurating a vineyard in Michigan later this year. A vineyard doesn’t just spring up over night. Or even over one season. She and her husband have spent at least a few years planning for this. Every month they travel from the Chicago area where they live to Michigan and spend days at the property doing preparatory work. They didn’t just buy the land and begin planting wine seeds/grapes. There were old barns on the property that needed to be refurbished or torn down. The land had to be cleaned and tilled and prepped for planting. This has been a long process. But they know their dream. They know their desired outcome and they know what they need to do to bring it to fruition-literally and figuratively. Planning and preparation are crucial.
Again, maybe a very basic principle but it must be noted. No project of any merit is ever successfully undertaken by one person alone. There is no such thing as a self-made millionaire or billionaire. There is no self-made business woman. Nobody starts a business and succeeds without customers. If one is ‘self-made’, then who purchased all their products? Who made the products? Who marketed and delivered the products? All successful people had other people that helped them attain the position they find themselves in.
Trump would not have won the presidency without votes from the people. No candidate could. He cannot function in the office of the President without cabinet members, or advisors, or staff, or secret service. He also cannot function effectively without the checks and balances of the people of the other two branches of the government.
As you consider, envision, plan and prepare for the projects that you will initiate, embark upon, launch this year, be careful to choose and surround yourself with the right people who will help you fulfill your vision. Hopefully, they will be people whose strengths complement your weaknesses and who share other perspectives that you may not naturally see.
PROCLAMATION- The Oath/Declare it
The Bible states that “The power of life and death are in the tongue.” When the President-elect places his hand on the Bible and repeats the oath of office after the Supreme Court Justice who is leading him, something more than a recitation of words is taking place. There certainly is power and energy in taking an oath, making a declaration or stating a proclamation. In addition to that individual swearing their allegiance to “preserve, protect and defend the constitution”, I believe that person is stating forth their intention for all to bear witness. He is declaring to the universe and bringing forth what previously was not. Before taking the oath of office that person was still only the President-elect. After the oath that person is declared to now be the President.
So, what does this have to do with you and me and achieving our goals and projects that we will initiate and inaugurate in 2017? First, don’t keep them a secret. I have met many people who say they have goals but they don’t want to share it with other people because they have some superstition that if they state it out loud they will ‘jinx’ it. But nothing could be further from the truth.
When one states something out loud there is a greater chance that they will actually take action and follow through with it rather than if it’s just a secret idea in that person’s mind that they call a goal. In fact, a while back I learned that the root word of the word ‘utter’-as in to say something aloud, and ‘outer’, are similar. What you think about you bring about. What you speak forth comes to fruition.
Am I saying that in order to inaugurate your plan or project that you must find the nearest Bible and Justice of the Peace so you can make or take an oath? NO. However, it would be advisable to state it out loud and declare it to someone- a friend, loved one, mentor, or advisor. This will lend both energy and accountability to this ‘goal’ you have.
PURPOSE-Why Are You Inaugurating/Launching this?
Another word for Purpose could be Mission. What’s driving you? Today, and throughout the campaign, Donald Trump had one clear, simply stated, purpose driving him. That is to: “Make America Great Again”. Again, it doesn’t matter if you resonate with this or not. I’m not endorsing or denouncing it. I’m merely explaining that Trump clearly knows/ believes why he is being inaugurated, why he desires to step into this role. His purpose is stated in 4 words. He believes he has a mission and a vision. The Bible states that “Without vision, the people perish.”
You and I would also do well to give careful consideration to why we are inaugurating what we are doing. Hopefully, it is something greater than the desire for fame and fortune. I want to be an author because I want to be famous. I am starting this online marketing company because I want to be a millionaire. While those reasons are not intrinsically bad or wrong it is my hope that it will have something to do with bringing value and being of service to others. Or to share your gifts with others. Before you inaugurate that huge project this year, make sure you know your purpose.
PRAY -Ask for God’s Blessing
Any undertaking, grand or small, we all need divine guidance, inspiration and even protection. Don’t leave God out of it. Need I say more?
TAKE ACTION- Do Something Today to get the Ball Rolling
Today after the oath taking ceremony, while the press, dignitaries and honored guests waited in the banquet hall for Donald Trump to join the luncheon in his honor, he immediately was joined by a small group of family and colleagues as he signed a number of Executive Orders. I don’t know what they all entailed and some we were told were merely formalities-as officially declaring the nominations for some of his incoming cabinet members. Really, work on the day he is inaugurated? Today is supposed to be about celebration. It is. However, he took the time to take action. He set a tone that he is about business.
While having the right people on your team is vital, and stating your goals out loud (and writing them down) is very important, and knowing and declaring your purpose is a must, all of those are just empty rituals if you don’t actually begin taking action.
Take action every day. Even when other things get in the way. Take action. Even when other events, and people and circumstances that are beyond your control may seem like obstacles, take time to take action. Did those Executive Orders signed by President Trump today effect any drastic changes today? I doubt it. Did any of those documents he signed created 1000s of jobs. Hardly. Regardless. He said he would take action on Day 1. So he did. Let today be your Day 1.
We, too can learn by this example. Don’t allow busy work prevent you from doing your business. Make a decision, you have the power of choice. Take Action, Every Day. You will progressively move toward the accomplishment of your goal.
CELEBRATE -Have Lunch or Watch (or Be in) a Parade
Yes, the inauguration of the President is a very serious occasion but it’s also a time to celebrate. While it is time to forge unity, the President did win an election and it’s not a bad thing to take a few moments and cherish the moment. So, just like Trump was feted at a beautiful luncheon and later he and First Lady, Melania walked in their own parade, you too, ought to not wait until your goal is accomplished before you celebrate.
If you’ve decided that this is the year you’re going to begin that goal you’ve been dreaming of- for example finish or start writing that book, don’t wait until it’s published before you celebrate a little. Go out with a few friends and have fun. Declare your intention. Celebrate in anticipation of what you’re going to do. Let it be your book inaugural luncheon. Then when it’s over get to work at accomplishing that project.
In closing, I want to challenge you. Decide what you are going to inaugurate for yourself in 2017. What is your Purpose? Can it be stated in a few simple words? May I suggest, “Make Myself Great Again” or “Become My Greatest Self” or “Selflessly Share My Gifts” or “Create My Greatest Possible Self”.
Whatever it may be, I challenge you to make 2017 the year of Your Inauguration. I encourage you to Inaugurate Yourself. Launch yourself into this new year.
Thank you for Reading. I am grateful for all my Soupfly Readers from around the world. Please feel free to share your comments below. Tell us what you are going to inaugurate in 2017.

Welcome Back to Soupfly!!
Here we go- 2017 is in full swing. First, I wish you a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year!! I hope 2016 was a great year for you. If it was, congratulations!! If it wasn’t-congratulations-it’s now past!
A New Year is upon us… A New Beginning. The opportunity to start fresh. New Goals, New Plans-New Dreams for 2017.
FORGET ABOUT RESOLUTIONS-
Every January people all around the world make New Year’s Resolutions. They make a resolution to be nicer to others, to lose weight, to make more money, to save more money, to give to the poor, to go on a trip, to spend more time with their family, etc. Most people make New Year’s Resolutions because it’s a part of our societal culture. It’s expected. But if everybody is making all these resolutions every year, then how come we don’t see massive changes/improvements in our co-workers, our friends, our loved ones, ourselves?
Everybody seems to start the New Year with excitement, motivation, even zeal for the changes that we’ve declared to ourselves and oftentimes to others that we are going to make, do, or implement in our lives. But about mid February-we often lose sight of those resolutions. We run out of steam, motivation or energy. Obstacles get in our way. And so we end up going back to the way we normally do things. Besides, change is hard. Change is difficult. Change is uncomfortable. And who really wants to be uncomfortable? Maybe that’s not where we desire to be but if we want to make change, if we wish to grow then it’s only OUTSIDE of Our Comfort Zone where that will happen for us.
We either consciously, or unconsciously, reassess what we thought we wanted. We then justify our lack of results and convince ourselves that we’ll do it later. Or maybe next year. Or we tell ourselves that our resolutions are too lofty and unrealistic. “I just don’t have the right body type to be really fit and tone.”
“I’m not really cut out to be a millionaire. My whole family has been poor or middle class-who am I to think that I would be any different?”
“I’ve been in the same job for years, why should I expect that this year things will change for me?” Does any of the above sound familiar to you?
I, personally do NOT make resolutions. I prefer to set goals and have accompanying plans of action. You may think that I’m just focusing on semantics and in a way, yes I am. But we ought to know the definition of the words we use, think and say. So what is a Resolution? One definition states; “The firm decision to do or not to do something” So, right there we can begin to see wherein the problem may lie. A resolution is merely a ‘decision to do or not to do something’. What is wrong with that? It’s incomplete. It’s merely the first step-it’s a decision. A decision is great. It’s vital to the process of change but it doesn’t guarantee any ‘Action’. Therefore, people often make resolutions/decisions to ‘do or not to do’ something and it stops there. It remains in their mind. They think about it and yes, thinking is where it all begins but if we merely make resolutions, it is not surprising that they are easily forgotten, broken or tossed to the wayside. Yes, I know this is not true for everyone but for many, it really is the case.
So, for 2017 I say let’s ditch the resolutions and instead I encourage you to Envision and Create Goals with Accompanying Plans of Action and in doing so you will Manifest Your Best 2017.
How specifically? We’ll focus on that in the next Soupfly later this week. I will discuss the 5 D’s that are vital to making your goals, dreams and visions a reality.
How about you, my friend, are you making resolutions or goals with plans of action this year? Feel free to comment below.
Where there is no vision, the people perish. Let’s make 2017 your year of great vision, great action and great manifestation. With Vision the people will flourish.
